Smart thermostats paired with ductless mini splits

If you have read my latest blog post, you know that I did a lot of research before getting my unit. Once I had a ductless mini split installed, I fell in love. I got a smart thermostat to go with my unit and I really enjoy that too. The smart thermostat makes this already wonderful device even more amazing. Any wifi operated product like an ipad, smartphone, or computer can hook up to the smart thermostat app. That means I can be in my office on the computer and alter the heating and cooling program on my mini split if I want. 

Since wifi is literally everywhere, I am able to go on vacation now and not worry about the HVAC. I can alter the settings from a beach resort, a swanky cafe or even in the rental car while on a trip. If the weather suddenly turns sweltering or cold, I can check out the indoor temperature and adjust accordingly. It is so nice and stress free doing this!

Another benefit of owning a smart thermostat is that my thermostat has learned what I like. Not only does it automatically sense when I am in the room and turn on, but the thermostat has learned my cooling behaviors in the summer. The thermostat knows when I want AC for working out and to power off when I am done. It has learned from my weekly adjustments. I hardly touch the device anymore. It even is saving me money by telling me energy efficient temperatures to set!

Ductwork, energy savings and your home

If your system has ductwork, have you thought about getting ductwork cleaning or sealing? Ductwork accounts for 30% of energy consumption. What happens when the ductwork has a tear along the seam or a hole in the middle of it? The home energy bills significantly go up. The HVAC system works longer, harder hours since the temperature controlled air is literally flying out the door. Trust me, you will know when your ductwork has a leak. The home won’t be the right temperature and the bills will be through the roof. Get a HVAC contractor to perform ductwork sealing. It is an easy, non invasive procedure that saves a homeowner a lot of money. In the end too, most HVAC companies offer a five year guarantee that their sealant will hold up or they will come back for free.

What about the ductwork sealing? Not only is dirty ductwork bad for the air quality, it is no good for the system either. Any part of the HVAC system with dust is sluggish, tired and more likely to produce inferior results. Every 5-7 years make it a point to clean out your air ducts.

Reasons to consider a ductless mini-split air conditioner

For those of you who are thinking about getting a new A/C system for your home, you might want to consider opting for a ductless mini-split air conditioner. There are many reasons why this would be a beneficial choice for you. First of all, you don’t have to worry about using a system of ductwork. Because you lose a great deal of energy just by having to rely on a ductwork system, eliminating the need for that will result in excellent energy savings. There is also the added benefit of HVAC zone control with a ductless mini-split air conditioner. You will have mounted A/C units all around your household in strategic areas for the ultimate cooling satisfaction. With individual temperature controls on each A/C unit, you can keep certain areas cooler than others and save significantly on your energy bills. Ductless mini-split A/C units are also far more energy efficient than window A/C units and they don’t block your precious window space. Now you can cool down your household without using the ductwork and also without blocking the views from the windows. You must clean the A/C condenser unit at least once per month, but other than that, the maintenance is not very costly. Another great reason to get the ductless mini-split A/C unit is to improve the air quality in your home. When you don’t use the ductwork system any longer where all kinds of dust and debris accumulates, naturally your air quality will be better.

Looking for an air conditioner? Read this blog first!

If you happen to live in a place where it gets really hot, then you know that it’s important to have A/C. The thing is, it can be difficult to choose which A/C unit or system is right for you. You really have to think about a few living factors when it comes to choosing a good A/C unit or system:

  • Do you own or rent your property?
  • Do you have a lot of windows?
  • Will you need to move your A/C from room to room?

If you own your property, you can actually improve the value of your household. This is why it’s a great idea to invest in a quality A/C system. You can feel confident that you will have an air conditioner that makes you comfortable and will allow you to sell your home for more money down the road. It’s always a good idea to make investments in your home.

If you rent a property, you’ll typically have to go through a landlord to see about improving the residence. You might live in an apartment that doesn’t even have A/C and perhaps the landlord made you sign a lease that says they only take care of the heating equipment. In a case like this, it would be a wise move to opt for a portable A/C unit or a window A/C unit. It really depends on how many windows you have in your residence and if you wish to move your A/C unit around for your cooling needs.

Air conditioning inside a gym is a necessity

The previous summer I concluded the time had come to get fit as a fiddle. I am not one to life weights or run normally and I don’t possess a ton of energy for it. I figured lifting and working out was the most ideal for me and choosing an activity plan would allow me to shed a few pounds. I started my workout in the early fall. I wasn’t really awful about sticking with the routine by any stretch of the imagination. As time went on and it got hotter outside, I wound up attempting to workout even more and trying to run home from the gym. I would drink a great deal of water prior and then afterward however was constantly incredibly hot when the run was finished. One especially sweltering morning I didn’t know I was going to make it home without dropping. I had worked out for hours and it was just too much for me.  I realized I needed to make it home so I could be cool inside my home. I chose to toughen up and start running. I was hardly moving and felt like I may pass out at any moment. I could feel each progression and garments were drenching wet with sweat, which made them all the heavier.

At the point when I at long last made it to my home, I could feel the surge of cold air when I opened the front entryway. I remained there for a second, making the most of my little triumph. I removed my shoes and lurched to the love seat. I crumbled on it and laid still while my body chilled. I could feel the air blowing over me and it felt so great. Air conditioning that’s perfect for a commercial office building

I work in a little office with a lot of cubicles and staff. Our manager’s office is associated with the primary workspace and is connected through a small hallway and glass door. One day our manager left his office trickling in sweat and griping about the temperature in the facility. We all agreed that it was extremely hot and helped him examined the issue. We concluded there was an issue with the heater and that it likely should have been replaced years ago. Our supervisor is continually attempting to save money on business expenses so he can get a big bonus at the end of the yea,  so he said he would deal with it himself first. Presently, our supervisor is a quite shrewd person and we all laughed at the thought of him for attempting to fix it himself. He has no business working on heaters or any other HVAC unit. Rather than calling the HVAC company for the work, he chose to mess around with the heater himself. Whatever he did wound up exacerbating things. The heater began making terrible commotions and the office seemed to get much hotter. He kept on trying to fix it for in a while but had no luck. At long last, we all decided enough was enough and Emily in accounting called the HVAC organization. They came to the workplace and began chipping away at the heater. They assured us that it was only a little issue but since my supervisor had been messing around with it, they also had to fix the things he had messed up. They brought in the necessary parts and continued to make the repairs until finally a burst of cool air filled the room. We were all relieved and went right back to work. We still laugh at our boss trying to make the repairs himself.

It’s really annoying when air conditioning doesn’t work properly

When you go to the beach you expect the winter to be warm or even hot. What you don’t expect is to wake up in the middle of the night with ice on your nose. I was appreciating a gentle fall and trusting that winter wouldn’t be too brutal when I took off for my favorite beach. I checked in with the sun shining and fell asleep quickly because I was so tired. I woke up freezing cold. I peered out my window and couldn’t accept what I was seeing. There was snow everywhere, even on the sand. I immediately ran down to the beach to see if it was real. The water was like ice.

I ran back to my room and turned on the heater. It didn’t come on right away. I heard the HVAC unit kick on and figure it would be quite a while before I really felt the warmth. Incredibly within an hour, my hotel was heating up. I fell asleep, but a few hours later work up cold again.

The unit had shut off and this time it would not come on. I called down to the front desk and they said that other rooms had similar problems. However, they had an emergency HVAC service program. The technician came to my room quickly, repaired the heating system and was on his way. I fell back asleep and slept cozy. The next day I ran down to the beach to play in the snow. How many people get to say they have done that?

What you do if your HVAC system breaks

I was devastated when I broke my cell phone coming down a flight of stairs at the doctor’s office.  That day I was rushing to get out of my appointment to reach a job interview on time. The appointment started 30 minutes later than it was supposed to, and I spent another 15 minutes waiting in one of the rooms in the back before my doctor even saw me.  I was racing to get out of the building in time for an important job interview at a bank roughly four miles from the building where my doctor is located. As I ran into the stairwell, I still had my phone in my hand coming down the steps. I nearly tripped and caught myself on the railing, but not before my cell phone flew from my hands and fell down several flights of stairs before reaching the bottom.  This wasn’t an old phone either, I had just bought it six months prior and had only recently finished paying off the small loan. I figured at that point things just could not get any worse for me that week, but they did. Just two days after I dropped my phone down that flight of stairs, my central air conditioner in my house stopped keeping up with the thermostat. I would set it to 75 degrees inside but could not get it to get lower than 85, despite the temperature outside only being a few degrees warmer.  Soon I learned that my air conditioner was broken and needed to be replaced. Even though I could technically afford a new air conditioner, it was not an expense that I had been planning for.

Scheduling air conditioning repair is easier than you may think

The other day I realized it had been three years since I had gone out to the ocean.  I live just a 10 minute drive from the beach and used to go daily during the summers home from school.  My friends and I would grab our bikes and we would all ride down to the local beach whenever we could. I have memories of building sandcastles while getting scorched by the sun and left with painful sunburns for a few days at a time.  Since the ocean had been such an important part of my life for so long, it is surprising to think that my interest all but fell off after I finished high school and went off to college. This is how I ended up going to the beach randomly the other day.  I was waiting on my heating and cooling technician to arrive with my new air conditioner and furnace. Although I was planning to stay at home while they installed the new system, I realized that the 90 degree outdoor temperatures would result in 80 degree indoor temperatures at best. 

Instead of suffering through the uncomfortably warm environment of my house during an HVAC system installation, I decided to spend the day at the beach. I packed food, drinks, sunscreen, and my towel. As I waited for the text from my HVAC technician I enjoyed myself at the ocean. I got to experience what I had missing out on all of those years when I wasn’t going to the beach anymore.  I think I’m going to make an effort to visit the beach more often, especially during the hottest summer heatwaves. There is no way that I appreciate the financial burden, but at least I was able to rediscover my love for the ocean through my need for a new air conditioner installation in my house.

It’s fun to consider many different types of air conditioners

There are several different types of air conditioner units and systems. There is the rooftop a/c unit which can suffer from weather damage, there is the common hvac unit that sits beside the building and is usually combined with a furnace system, then there are the portable units like a small space heater and window air conditioners. One common unit that is quite popular in homes is the split air conditioner unit. Like a window air conditioner, a split a/c unit can only cool one room. The split has its name because it is composed of two separate or “split” parts. The first part is located on the outside wall of the room that is being air conditioned. This part consists of the condenser and expanding coil and the air compressor.

The second part of the split a/c system is inside the room and is a nice looking wall air conditioner. Inside it is the fan, vents, cooling coil, and air filter. The two parts work together to provide a nice looking air conditioner that is mounted on the inside wall of the building. Many businesses like to have this kind of air conditioner in their conference rooms and offices because they look more professional than a bulky window air conditioner. Keep in mind that a splint air conditioner unit is made to only keep one room air conditioned. If your would like to keep your entire home air conditioned, it would be better to invest in a central air conditioning unit, but if you need to keep only one room cool, the split air conditioning system is a step up from a window air conditioner.
